Shelter Bay Weather

Want to know exactly what the weather is doing in Shelter Bay? Wind speed, direction, precipitation, humidity, dew point, and barometric pressure? And just how bad are those wind gusts anyway? Now you can find out by linking to Weather Underground at the link below and enjoying accurate Shelter Bay weather information updated every four minutes. The temperature and wind symbol over La Conner on the map is actually our own Shelter Bay station. And here you will also find other personal weather stations reporting from all over the northwest.

This weather station is registered and supported by Stuart and Lynn Thornton, Lot 450. They are located on Shelter Bay Drive right across from the 4th green. If you look up at the roof on the blue/gray house with white window trim, you will see the weather instruments doing their job.

Stuart points out that if you click on the La Conner temperature/wind symbol after logging onto the website, you will open a window tabbed "Current" with more specific Shelter Bay information. Clicking on the "Forecast" tab will give you the next five-day outlook. And if you click on the station identifier,"KWALACON1", you will open a new page that provides all of the reported data in the form of graphs along with the actual tabular transmissions sent throughout the day. The wind speed and direction graphs are especially useful as you can see the trend during and after one of those nasty little storms we get. And in the Statistical area, you will find all the totals for both the day and the month.

One note. Rainfall is measured in 0.04 inch increments (four one hundredths of an inch), so it might start raining, but you will not see it reflected in the readings until the accumulated rainfall reaches 0.04", then 0.08", etc. Rain gauges that are more sensitive are cost prohibitive for this application.

A tip from the webmaster: Sometimes when I click on the link below, the La Conner symbol does not show up. I have found that if I refresh that page, it will show up, and I can check the weather. I have no idea why it should work this way, but it does.--Don Monroe

Community residents can feel free to utilize this weather resource for as long as it continues to be supported by the Thorntons. If you have any questions, you can contact Stuart at stuart.thornton@verizon.net.
