Greenbelt Committee Annual Report
2008 - 2009

The Greenbelt Committee has had a very busy year meeting twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays to evaluate Greenbelt Requests and Greenbelt Maintenance Permits. Each request is evaluated on the basis of the Covenants, Rules and Regulations, Greenbelt Management Plan, Shorelines and Sensitive Areas Guidelines, Firewise Guidelines, View Restoration Guidelines, and View Creation Guidelines as well as our processes and procedures. Most of these requests require at least one onsite visit to fully understand the proposed action. All of this pretty much uses a Thursday morning.

Our achievements for this year include the following in addition to responding to community member’s request:

  • We updated our Processes and Procedures to reflect the added services of our committee secretary.
  • We have carried through with our plans to reduce the fuel loads in the greenbelts along Pull-and-Be Damned Road and Indian Road. There remains one section along Indian Road which we hope to address this spring. We hope to be able to start addressing the area on Klamath Hill this next year.
  • We continue to work with the Social and Recreation Committee with the support of the Safety Committee to design and finish a walking path to parallel Shelter Bay Drive from the maintenance building to the upper pool to provide a safe alternative for our walkers and bikers off the road way.
  • We also did a major view restoration along Skagit Way, which resulted in our having to do some major slope stabilization in that area.
  • We are in the process of developing a plan for a second emergency exit from the community from Shelter Bay Drive and Pull-and-Be Damned Road.
  • We are also in the process of developing a plan to address the scotch broom along the cliff trail by Martha’s Beach and in the greenbelt between Shelter Bay Drive and Muckleshoot Circle.

A great committee consisting of Jan O’Leary, Paul Crain, Pam Malberg, Bob Conrad, Sandy Nason, Steff Steinhorst, Cheryl Westlake, and Dennis Massoth contributing and working together with a little guidance and prodding from me, Jack Withrow, are doing a great job completing these projects.

Respectively submitted,

Jack Withrow
Greenbelt Committee Chair
